Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by this list of books inspired by William Shakespeare! These books have taken a particular play by the bard and then adapted it to it's own story. These aren't books that tell the further adventures of particular characters or share the story from another perspective. For example, much like the Jets and the Sharks danced it out as rivals in the movie West Side Story, Sharon Draper updated Romeo and Juliet in Romiette and Julio as young loves torn apart by modern gangs. It has the same framework as the original play, but without all of the "oh, happy dagger"-ing.
Below each title is paired with the play that inspired it marked in red. As an added bonus, I've included the "When you're a Jet" song from West Side Story at the bottom. One of the finest films ever made.
10. The Madness of Love by Katharine Davies Twelfth Night
9. Romiette and Julio by Sharon M. Draper Romeo and Juliet
8. Starcrossed by Mark Schreiber Romeo and Juliet
7. A Girl, A Ghost and the Hollywood Hills by Lizabeth Zindel Hamlet
6. Exposure by Mal Peet Othello
5. A Winter Night's Dream by Andrew Matthews A Midsummer Night's Dream
4. Love in Idleness by Amanda Craig A Midsummer Night's Dream
3. Something's Rotten in the State of Maryland by Laura Sonnemark Hamlet
2. Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty by Jody Elizabeth Gehrman Much Ado About Nothing
1. A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley King Lear

This is a great list, thanks. I might be a little bias, as I love Shakespeare and am crazy about A Thousand Acres!
